4. Wall Street strategists continue to publish their outlooks for 2015, with BMO Capital’s Brian Belski putting a year-end price target on the S&P 500 of 2,250, an 8.5% advance from current levels. Belski expects corporates to spend less on share buybacks and more investing in their businesses, which are dealing with equipment that is as old as its been in decades. 5. On Thursday, the European Central Bank is set to announce its latest monetary policy decision, and as has been the case over the last several months, the real focus will be on ECB president Mario Draghi’s press conference following the decision. The November tally is the 8th straight month of job gains in excess of 200K. Importantly, the tally for October was modestly revised higher. good stock to invest in The consensus expectation for Friday’s BLS report is for ‘headline’ gains of 230K, which includes government jobs that have been averaging in the 5K to 10K monthly level lately. As such, today’s ADP report wouldn’t have much bearing on current BLS estimates, though the two reports can divert in a big way from each other at times. This was particularly the case a few months back when the two reports diverged in a big way in August, though that month’s gap has since been narrowed a bit in subsequent revisions.
